“Most of my webinars demos of software or websites. How do you keep those lively? It’s obviously easier to tell or show a narrative arc in PowerPoint.”
For those of you who might not be familiar with the term, ‘story arc’ refers to how a story unfolds from beginning to end. I like the graphic representation of it you find
Engagement is powerfully needed in every presentation, and doubly so in a webinar. This webinar will explore ten different things you can do to improve engagement on several levels. Note…the target audience for this webinar is trainers, but it’s open and useful to all.
One reality of most webinars is they aren’t moderated by professionals with experience in being a moderator, emcee, or host. This isn’t an indictment, just an observation that leads to a couple ideas you can use to set yourself up for success. If you’re speaking at a webinar, do yourself a favor:
Unless your surname is Smith, be sure to tell the moderator how to pronounce your name.
You get two big benefits:
Your audience gets started with better momentum
It doesn’t help anyone …
Face it: even if an audience shows up to your webinar, if they’re tuned out, you’re not accomplishing what you need to accomplish.

I think you should consider it both in terms of context and culture. Here are a few things to consider:
Generally, I do mention names – first names only. The sweetest sound to anyone’s ear is their own name, and not only do you get that person’s attention …
I love Twitter, and of all the times I’ve spoken at webinars and used Twitter for backchannel conversation, nobody’s more enthusiastically embraced it than when I’ve spoken to trainers.
